Ko Lisa - Jane Myers toku ingoa
My name is Lisa - Jane Myers

My awakening happened back in 1998, when I had my first baby. I had severe post-natal depression and was awake and distressed a lot during the first few months of motherhood.

During this time, one day in the early hours of the morning I felt the presence of my grandmother on my right shoulder who had passed away 10 years previous. She whispered to me that she was with me loving and supporting me through my journey.

I would often talk with her and feel her loving support thereafter.

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s after the Tohunga Suppression Act had been lifted which had been bought in to stop Māori from practicing our spiritual traditions and speaking our language.

I was born feeling and knowing my deceased loved ones on the other side were close by me always. I’d often be heard by my closest childhood friend engaging and chatting away to them all - at aged 7. I was told at home to keep quiet about all of this. My parents had been bought up with their Grand Mothers being beaten for speaking our Māori language and also the on-going after affects of the Tohunga Suppression Act.

So I learnt very early to keep this all quiet and then eventually completed shut it off - which was very painful and felt so unnatural for me.

As soon as I could find alcohol, as a young teenager I would binge on it to dull down the korero ( conversation) and guidance that was coming through from my Ancestors and Nana - that lasted well into my twenties.

Having my first baby at 29 years old bought everything flooding back, I could no longer suppress it all especially in those wee small hours of the morning when the veil was thin and my Grandmother was right there on my shoulder supporting me with her loving presence and kind words.

Becoming a Medium
After my awakening I knew I had to come back to who I truly was. I began to research about becoming a Medium as I had so many questions that needed answering. My whanau (extended family) were all still very quiet about all of our traditions, so it was difficult to find anyone to talk with about all the spiritual experiences I was having. There weren’t any Elders about either so I found the closest spiritual book shop I could and went about my own research. It was a lonely journey but through it I came to build deep connections with all of my deceased loved ones and Ancestors as they introduced themselves one by one. They shared their many gifts and wisdom with me. It’s so deeply reassuring, and comforting walking in the World with them.

in 2004 this journey of curiosity lead me to undergo formal training in the USA with Doreen Virtue, completing my mediumship training under her guidance.

I began to research about becoming a medium as I felt I had so many questions that needed answering that weren’t able to be answered elsewhere.

My healing work has taken me to many places, including India, Indonesia, California and now where I currently reside in Mangawhai, New Zealand.

Creative Expression
In 2008 I took a year to complete the first year of my visual arts degree.

As part of my body of work, I channeled through the works of a contemporary Māori cloak with the help of my Tupuna (ancestors). This was a powerful and empowering part of my work as a Medium, giving me direct access to my whakapapa (culture, experiences and wisdom),

Shamanic Training
In the recent years of 2014 – 2017 I completed 4 years of intensive shamanic healing training with two local New Zealand Shaman women.
This expanded my knowledge and awareness through tuning into the energy of a person or place,  and using my shamanic tools to assist in the healing process through anything from soul retrieval, land healing, trauma healing, and past life regressions.

Tohunga - Maori healer training

From January 2019 - November 2019 I trained with Tohunga -Māori healer Wiremu Nia Nia of wiremuniania.co.nz. This was the most incredible experience, bringing together all my training thus far into my own cultures ways of healing. Understanding it through the lens of my own Maori cultures way of healing in Te Ao Māori - The Māori worldview.

I understood so much more of myself through this process and who I am as Matekite - Māori Psychic Medium to be able to help others.
